Understanding Salutogenesis

What creates health? An introduction to the Salutogenic Model of Health and the Sense of Coherence framework developed by Aaron Antonovsky. Salutogenesis shifts the focus from what causes disease to what enables people to move toward health — even in the presence of stress and adversity. The Sense of Coherence — encompassing comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness — is a central concept in understanding why some people thrive under conditions that overwhelm others.

Trauma & Addiction

Resources on the intersection of trauma and substance use, including the TraumAddiction® framework. For many people, substance use and addictive behaviors are adaptive responses to unresolved trauma. Understanding this connection is essential for effective, compassionate care. The TraumAddiction® framework recognizes that trauma and addiction must be addressed together — not sequentially — for sustainable healing to occur.

EMDR & IFS

Educational overviews of two evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people process distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact. IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a model that understands the mind as made up of distinct "parts," each with its own perspective and role. Both approaches are widely used in trauma treatment and are part of the clinical practice at Salus Collaborative.

Trauma-Informed Yoga

The evidence base and principles of trauma-sensitive yoga practice. Trauma-informed yoga adapts traditional yoga practices to be safe and accessible for people who have experienced trauma. It emphasizes choice, body autonomy, and present-moment awareness — and has been shown to support nervous system regulation, reduce symptoms of PTSD, and complement other trauma therapies. Salus Collaborative offers training in trauma-informed yoga for clinicians and facilitators.

Clinician Well-Being

Resources on compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and building resilience as a helping professional. Clinicians and caregivers are not immune to the effects of the work they do. Compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress are real occupational hazards in behavioral health. Building resilience requires more than self-care — it requires organizational support, supervision, and a salutogenic approach to the work environment itself.

Organizational Health

Tools and frameworks for building psychologically safe, salutogenic workplaces in behavioral health. Organizational health is not just the absence of dysfunction — it is the active presence of conditions that allow people to do meaningful work sustainably. Psychological safety, clear communication, equitable workload, and leadership that models well-being are all components of a salutogenic organization. Salus Collaborative works with organizations to assess and build these conditions.
